General Terms for Access to and Use of the Audiovisual Archive //
The audiovisual materials in the archive are original works protected by copyright under Italian law (Law No. 633/1941).
This page explains how to access the materials, under what conditions they may be used, and what happens after a request is submitted.
Access Procedure
The process takes place in six steps:
> Request / complete the online form, describing the requested material and the project.
> Review / the archive reviews the request and verifies the availability of the material within 10 working days.
> Quotation and licensing terms / licensing fees and contractual terms are communicated by the archive following review of the request.
> Preview for selection and editing / material is supplied with visible timecode for viewing, selection, and editing purposes.
> Delivery of preview material / the preview material is sent after acceptance of the quotation.
> Delivery of final material without timecode / the final material without visible timecode is delivered upon signature of the License Agreement and payment of the licensing fee.
Materials with visible timecode
Materials supplied during the preview stage carry visible timecode (TC) as an on-screen overlay. They are provided exclusively for content review, clip selection, and communication of the IN/OUT references of the material to be licensed.
Material with visible timecode may not be used, distributed, published, or included in any production, in any form or for any purpose. Final material without timecode is provided only after signature of the License Agreement.
Types of License
All licenses are non-exclusive.
Specific terms — including territory, duration, and permitted use — are defined in the License Agreement.
The available categories are:
> Non-commercial use / research, education, festivals, exhibitions, and non-profit screenings or programs.
> Editorial and documentary use / documentaries, reportages, journalistic productions, and video podcasts.
> Fiction / fiction films and television series, for all agreed platforms.
> Commercial use / advertising, branded content, and sponsored productions. Subject to case-by-case evaluation.
Obligations of the User
By signing the License Agreement, the user agrees to use the material exclusively for the declared purpose, not to transfer the licensed rights to third parties without authorization, to include credits in the form specified in the agreement, and to notify the archive of any change in the intended use declared at the request stage.
What Is Not Permitted
Using the material outside the limits of territory, duration, and platform defined in the license.
Distributing or sharing material with visible timecode in any form.
Reselling or sublicensing the material to third parties.
Using the material for purposes other than those declared, without written authorization.
Violations
Any use of the material outside the agreed conditions constitutes an infringement of copyright under Italian law (Law No. 633/1941) and may result in revocation of the license, a demand to cease the unauthorized use, and legal action for damages.
Personal Data
Personal data provided through the request process are handled in accordance with GDPR 2016/679 and Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003, exclusively for the management of the request and the contractual relationship. Such data are not shared with third parties.
