Photography today is more central to our lives today than any another other period in history.
We “consume '' images daily, sharing them on social networks, sending them through messages, e producing them in a continuous stream that never stops. Photography has become part of a new communication: fast, immediate and direct. Without surprises. 36EXP is born in opposition to this continuous flow of images, bringing everything back to a now forgotten level: the pause and the surprise. The call invited photographers, film lovers and enthusiasts of the emulsion to expose a 36 roll film, with maximum freedom of subject and technique, and send it to 36EXP undeveloped. Virtually a jump in the dark. Forty people responded, sending 40 rolls from different parts of the world. Many from Italy, but also France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, England, Canada, United States, Japan The result was very interesting, and the proposed projects arrived were very different from each other. Of these a jury selected 2 rolls. The first series of roll film will be printed and exhibited at the FotoForum Gallery in Bolzano starting December 5 till January 11. The second series, as a special mention, will be published on this website starting December 5. Thanks to all participants! |
La fotografia oggi è centrale nella nostra vita come non è mai successo in altri periodi storici. ''Consumiamo'' immagini quotidianamente, condividendole sui social networks, inviandole attraverso i messaggi, producendole in un flusso continuo che non si interrompe mai. La fotografia è diventata parte stessa di una nuova comunicazione: veloce, immediata e diretta. Senza sorprese.
36EXP nasce in contrapposizione a questo flusso continuo di immagini, riportando tutto a un livello ormai dimenticato. L'attesa e la sorpresa. La call ha invitato fotografi, amatori di pellicola ed entusiasti dell'emulsione ad esporre un rullo da 36 pose, con la massima libertà di soggetto e tecnica, e poi inviarlo a 36EXP senza svilupparlo. Praticamente un salto nel buio. Hanno risposto 41 persone, inviando 41 rullini da diverse parti del mondo. Tanti dall'Italia, ma anche Francia, Belgio, Olanda, Germania, Spagna, Svizzera, Inghilterra, Canada, Stati Uniti e Giappone. Il risultato è stato molto interessante, e i progetti proposti arrivati sono stati assai diversi tra loro. Su tutti, una giuria ha selezionato 2 rullini. Il primo rullino verrà esposto a Bolzano alla galleria FotoForum dal 5 Dicembre al 11 Gennaio. Il secondo rullino sarà visibile su questo sito dal 5 dicembre. Grazie a tutti i partecipanti! |
Die Fotografie spielt heute mehr denn je eine zentrale Rolle in unserem Leben. Wir “konsumieren” täglich Bilder, teilen sie in den sozialen Netzwerken, verschicken sie in Nachrichten und produzieren sie in einem nie endenden Strom. So ist die Fotografie ein wichtiger Teil einer neuen Kommunikation geworden: schnell, unmittelbar und direkt – ohne Überraschungen.
36EXP will diesem kontinuierlichen Strom an Bildern etwas bereits in Vergessenheit geratenes entgegensetzen: das Warten und die Überraschung. Ein Aufruf hat Fotografen, Analog-Film-Fans und Emulsions-Enthusiasten eingeladen, eine Rolle zu 36 Bildern zu belichten, das Sujet und die Technik waren frei wählbar. Die Filmrolle sollten sie dann an 36EXP schicken, ohne sie zu belichten – ein Sprung ins Ungewisse. 41 Personen sind dem Aufruf gefolgt und haben 41 Rollen Film aus verschiedenen Ländern der Welt geschickt. Viele Filmrollen kamen aus Italien aber auch aus Frankreich, Belgien, Holland, Deutschland, Spanien, der Schweiz, England, Kanada und Japan wurden Filme eingeschickt. Das Ergebnis war sehr interessant und die eingetroffenen Projekte waren sehr unterschiedlich. Eine Jury hat aus allen Einreichungen 2 Filmrollen ausgesucht. Die erste Rolle wird in Bozen in der Galerie FotoForum vom 5. Dezember bis zum 11. Januar ausgestellt. Die zweite Filmrolle wird ab 5. Dezember auf dieser Internetseite gezeigt. Arianna Carossa
Arianna Carossa is an Italian artist based in NewYork. She studied fine art painting at the Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti in Genoa and started her career as a painter in 1999 with exhibits at the ARC Gallery In Chicago¨ the Museo Hermitage at the Contemporary Art Biennale in Saint Petersburg Russia and at the Mediterranean Artists Biennale in Tunisia. In 2005 she redirected her focus and research on sculpture and in 2010¨ through the ISCP scholarship¨ she moved to New York, Brooklyn where she currently lives. In her Sophisticated work she uses an array of techniques, such as painting, sculpture, video and performance. |

Francesca is a bi-lingual film editor (Italian/ English) with over 15 years experience in the industry. Her work spans award winning Documentary Film, Documentary & Dramatic Shorts, Music Videos, Commercials and Trailers. Born in Brescia, Italy, Francesca has been living and working in NYC since 2010. |

Richard Thuoy
Richard Thuoy is one of the most active experimental film artists currently working on celluloid in Australia. He runs Nanolab in Australia – the specialist small gauge film processing laboratory. He actively encourages other artists to work with cine film through his Artist Film Workshop initiative (see artistfilmworkshop.org). He is also a founding director of the Australian International Experimental Film Festival. |
Martino Chiti
Martino Chiti is a photographer, director and video designer. He found, along with Nicola Buttari, Proforma Videodesign: a multimedia agency creating installations and virtual scenographies for events, theater, museum and brands. He found along with Daniele Stefanini, the Miranda Project, installations of photographic blow-ups in urban contexts both for marketing campaigns and as an artistic instrument of free expression. He creates documentaries and reportages collaborating with institutions and associations involved in health and educational projects. He studies assiduously the relationship between society and individual, in continuous search for new experimentation. |
